In a disturbing development, Colonel Daniel Gutiérrez, director of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec), confirmed that Francisco Luis Correa Galeano, identified by the Attorney General’s Office as the star witness in the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, was found dead in his cell early Friday morning, January 3rd. The incident took place in cell 25 of pavilion 32 at La Picota prison in Bogotá.

Colonel Gutiérrez reported that Correa’s death resulted from a stabbing with a sharp object. Official accounts indicate that a prison guard requested immediate assistance around 12:05 AM after discovering Correa’s body. Medical personnel quickly arrived but were unable to revive him, confirming his death on-site. Reports state that he was found lying on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood.

Initial investigations have pointed to fellow inmate Samuel Zuleta Márquez as the primary suspect in this tragic incident. Following the discovery, prison authorities alerted judicial police units, who cordoned off the area for further investigation.
